Harry Glass Memorial Trophy
The Harry Glass Trophy is named after one of the founding fathers of the Club who also built the trophy. The retired banker from Tennessee and his wife, Evelyn, moved to Riverbend at retirement as one of Riverbend’s pioneers enjoying the scenery, weather and golf available here in Sun City. Harry and some of the other early residents of Riverbend decided they would like to play golf together at not only the Sun City courses but also at the many courses available in the Hilton Head Region.

The group grew and formed the Riverbend Golf Club as a Class B member club of the USGA. Of course, as their numbers grew, they wanted more competition and established the Club Championship held each spring and fall. When one has a championship, one must have a trophy to award to the winner and Harry volunteered to build the trophy in the wood shop. The first winner of the trophy was David Mauk another founder and Club Champion in 2007. Although there have been a few misses in the sequenced of semi-annual tournaments as people and organizational changes entered the picture, the trophy has been awarded as a traveling trophy to the winner of the Club Championship.
The Club Championship has always been an individual, stroke play tournament, some lasting one-day and others lasting two days. Although Harry passed away some years ago, Harry’s Trophy is still awarded to the individual stroke play winner in Harry’s Tournament If you look at the names engraved on the Trophy, you will see the name of “Mike Allen” listed as the winner. Mike is Harry’s son-in-law. He and Harry’s daughter, Amy, along with Harry’s wife, Evelyn, continue to live in Riverbend. When you see them in the community, make it a point to thank them for the contributions Harry made to the Club!

Dennis S. Stosak Memorial Trophy
The Dennis Stosak Trophy is named after an early resident of Riverbend, although not a pioneer. Denny, as a dentist from Ohio, retired to Riverbend with his wife, Karen, to leave the cold and snowy winters of the Cleveland area. Denny was a very active guy, actually obtaining a contract from the SCHHCA along with a couple of his friends for the weekly maintenance of the then three pools in Sun City. Why? Denny enjoyed staying physically active to include playing volleyball so well that he played for the Sun City traveling volleyball team, one year, playing in a national tournament.

There was so much more to Denny however. He was truly a gentleman understanding and exercising the skills of working with others. He cared for others playing an important role with the St. Vincent de Paul Society in its fundraising and assistance to those who have less. He was also active in the Knights of Columbus here in the Bluffton area. Denny served as an officer and director of the Riverbend Golf Club, serving many years as both the Friday play day starter and the venue contact arranging the tee times and rates with the many golf courses the Club played. Not only did he arrange and start the rounds of golf, but he also assisted some of the older members of the Club who had physical difficulty in traversing the courses by acting as the driver and in some cases almost serving as a caddie. Denny was always willing to help another member, sometimes at the expense of his own game.
Denny died in August 2016 after a long bout with cancer. Even during his illness, Denny continued to arrange the venues for the Friday play days, working through the May before he died. He was selfless and a real team player in everything he did. The Board had decided that the fall tournament should be a team format event and upon Denny’s death it seemed a natural fit to name the fall team tournament after Denny. The First Annual Dennis S. Stosak Memorial Tournament was played in October 2016 and the traveling Trophy will has the names of the winning foursome engraved on it, keeping alive the memory of one of the finest men one could ever know. What a privilege!
